Movement (JAM) was officially launched in Sam Sharpe
Square, Montego Bay last week. President of the Movement,
Ras Astor Black and candidate for the North West St.
James Constituency, said his party will bring good over
evil in the constituency and to Jamaica on a whole.


In his speech, Mr. Black who also contested the recent by-election in North East St Ann, said his
mission was to drive home the realisation of ridding
Jamaica of "economic and political terrorists" and to
take the country to a revolutionary beginning. He said
when elected to power he would abolish the present
constitution and the colonial monarchy, as well as to pledge
allegiance to the people of Jamaica and the entire African
diaspora.

The function lasted for about three hours despite intermittent rains and saw mostly young people in
attendance. Popular sound system Jah Creations, provided
musical entertainment, blasting cultural reggae and
revolutionary songs from its massive speakers. Other
persons who also spoke, echoed support for the move which
Astor Black has made. One female who said she was a
visitor from London, England, was quite vocal in
delivering a short message. She said Rastafari should take a
more proactive approach into the governance of their
own affairs as well as the affairs of the nations and
its people as a whole, as this could help to
rejuvenate the "one love syndrome which we crave for".


Ras Astor Black also spoke of the long overdue implementation of the Bob Marley School for the Arts which he is
setting up in nearby Trelawny. Interestingly, the
Movement's attorney Gordon Brown, who has been selected to
represent the People's National Party and will be one of
Black's opponents in the next General Elections, is still
working to complete the probating process of the property
earmarked for the construction of the school>Mr.
Black said the Move-ment's long-term goal is to
downsize government to only 14 members of Parliament, to
cease debt payment for 20 years in an effort to rebuild
the country's infrastructure and also to introduce a
flat tax of 17 1/2 per cent for General Consumption
Tax only and to abolish all other taxes from
salaries. The Movement will also seek to stamp out
all taxes on imported consumer goods which enters the
island's ports. Black said this could be a move in the
right direction in upgrading the standards of living
for all Jamaicans here da story bout it
