Why do we call ourselves Rasta and not Ras Tafari or Ras-man ?

Is Rasta a name that I&I let Babylon call us for short ? Or did we just make up something ? Blessed love always !

Yes Iyah. Ancient Mortimer Planno said that only saying Rasta was inconsistent with the vision. InI are Rastafari.

Funny, I used to ask Iself the same! Why Rasta? It dont really mek sense does it? Still, we use it.. Maybe as a nick, but it is commonly used to seriously testify to that I an I are Rasta!!! Rasta.. Sounds nice though.. Is dat a valid reason?

I hope there is an answer for this.. Who said Rasta is Rasta, was I an I documented as Rasta by the ppl who like to document and file tings or by I an I selves???

More Love for raising this topic!!!

Real talk. the truth is the first to hold the faith were very spiritually strong, but due to babylon injustice, not very educated. So we didnt over the name, also the jamaican media abused the name. In truth we should just say God man/Jahman or Goddess wombman/Jahwombman and done the confusion.

InI never say just 'rasta',because that world has no meaning.Of course InI know it is short for Ras Tafari, but InI should get into the habit of respecting the name of Ras Tafari.I feel it is just another way that baylon take away the word sound power away from InI people and belittle all things that empower InI.That is why we should call and write out Ras Tafari, just like that, two words

InI = RAS TAFARI = RAS = Iman = viSION (without this there is not the futur, there's not the MOVEment)

Rasta = rastafarISM = capitalSM = ISM and shISM (It's da incredulity for hypocrits and babylonian way of thinking)

HOTEP!

If ones go to Blessed Ithiopia or speak to any Ithiopians then ones will see that when translated from Amharic, His name would read Ras Teferi. So, even Ras Tafari may not be the fullness. Prophecy was fulfilled and the Earth Quaked when He was coronated as Haile Selassie First! There are many who have seperated Rastafari from the man. So, when InI chant Haile Selassie First, InI are acknowledging his power and glory. Did anyone within the imperial inner circle call Haile Selassie by his birth name after his coronation? I'm not sure. Maybe Her Royal Highness Empress Menen called him Teferi. For I, the word sound of Jah Rastafari is powerful as well as Haile Selassie First. When linked together it is powerful enough to move mountains and crack the foundations of babywrong.

The title “Ras” is a traditional Ethiopian honorific meaning “Prince,” or “Head Leader,” and the name “Tafari” (sometimes spelled Tefari) translates from the Amharic language, the language of Ethiopia, variously (depending on who is doing the translating) to “he who inspires awe” or “the fearsome one” in English. Thus, followers of Rastafari are persons who follow the leadership of "The Awesome Leader" or "The Fearsome Leader."

As InI sight it, by participation in the faith and by calling oneself Rastafari, a Rastafari man becomes a leader himself -- he is to lead his family on the trod of righteous living, and if he takes the title "Ras," he is a Prince himself, a leader among men, to show the non-Rastafari the way by example.

When InI say it out loud "Rastafari" it becomes evident that since “sound” + “meaning” = “power” the correct name for a follower of the faith should be Rastafari. Leaving off the final portion of the name, especially the ending "i" seems to leave out a part of the I-nity that is meant to be among all Bredren and Sistren who follow the faith.

Since InI have followed Rastafari for a long time, InI know that a few early followers called themselves "Far-I Man" and referred to H.I.M. as "Far-I." I find "Far-I" a bit more preferable a sound to the ear than the abbreviation Rasta. "Far" could refer to "far away" as in Africa, or "far above" as the seat of the Almighty. However, although Ras = Prince, the ending "ta" has little meaning.

Blessings, Rastafari man.

Nice word sound! Just to add on though the word Fari in Amharic means coward so I don't think we just use Fari. If we are in the name of H.I.M. then we should use Ras Teferi.

Give thanks fi this explanation of "Fari" which is not really the same as "Far-I" but seems too similar in print, so InI agree wi should probably not use that word.

WHY DO ONE AND ONES ILLOW THIS. THE WORD RASTA IS ONLY HALF WORD SO ITS HALF TRUTH. BRING IT TO LIGHT.

Blessed ones & all,

I do totally agree that we should use the name of our divine king properly for the word sound & power to manifest. I don't personaly have a problem with people using the term rasta as to me
R.A.S.T.A= RIGHTEOUS APOSTLE SERVING THE ALMIGTHY!! but I think because of babylon trying to discredit us we should only use the fullness of our king's name so that we might be able to embrace the fullness of his glory!!

How magnificent & powerfull is thy name oh JAH!!!!

Just got the word tonight and found this on the wavy.com site. Mr. Mouse was just here in VA . He had a nice show and stayed a wile after. He posed for a few pictures for me and with me and told him I wanted to get he whole 6'6" in the picture. We laughed and went our own ways. He was very down to earth. He told me I had real Rasta Woman vibes and that was it. Hope for the truth. Jah guide.
